Co-founders, Bob Williams and Ken Grewal, today announced the launch of Forthlane Partners Inc. (“Forthlane”), an institutional-grade multi-family office whose mission is to professionalize and humanize how families engage with their wealth and each other.

“Forthlane began because we wanted to solve big problems. One of the big problems we saw in Canadian financial services was that families wanted more choice when it came to choosing an institutional-grade multi-family office to work with,” explained Grewal. Grewal, a former Managing Director of Canadian Institutional Equity Sales at BMO Capital Markets in New York City, has had a more than 20-year cross-border career in capital markets.

Williams, a veteran in the Canadian financial services industry, echoed Grewal’s sentiment. “In searches for my own needs, I haven’t been able to find a firm that has the broad offering of services that Forthlane will have.” Williams has spent over six decades immersed in the Canadian capital markets and financial services industries, including as former Head of Scotia Equity Capital Markets.

Forthlane is a holistic multi-family office that offers UHNW families tailored family office services that go beyond those services provided by traditional wealth managers. Forthlane’s four core offerings are:

·       Strategic Wealth Planning

·       Global Investment Management

·       The Forthlane Institute (Family Education)

·       Private Markets Investing

These offerings reflect Forthlane’s four quadrant approach to wealth. “We firmly believe that in order to serve our families, we must focus equally on four interconnected quadrants: values wealth, physical & mental wealth, relationship wealth and financial wealth,” Grewal said.

Under the direction of its Chief Investment Officer, Wayne Kozun, Forthlane will leverage some of the best techniques of leading global pension plans and endowment funds in its management of families’ assets, with an emphasis on private investment opportunities. Kozun spent over 22 years at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, where he held various senior management positions including Senior Vice President of Public Equities, Fixed Income and Alternative Investments.

“The Forthlane Institute encompasses Forthlane’s commitment to leading families to focus beyond just financial wealth,” explained Grewal. Under the Institute, Forthlane will work with families to customize experiential curriculum covering four main verticals: family culture, impact philanthropy, mind & body, and education & performance.

Grewal and Williams have assembled a team with a diverse range of expertise, including investment banking, institutional asset management, tax, trust and estate planning, family education and digital strategy. Each team member has an ownership stake in Forthlane and is oriented towards Forthlane’s long-term success. “I am truly excited to work with an ambitious, diverse and young team of individuals (much younger than me),” Williams said. “We’ve set this firm up so that it has longevity so that it will last way past the founders and be able to serve multi-generations of the families we’re serving.”

“Our goal is to build the most respected multi-family office in Canada - not by awards and press, but by our client families, our external partners and competition,” said Grewal. “I am very optimistic about the success we will have in helping families manage their complexities of their wealth.”
